Metaplex April Round-Up 2026

May 15th, 2026

April Highlights

  • Agent Tokens - Agents registered through the Metaplex Agent Registry can now launch official Agent Tokens to fund themselves, with instant tradability and integrations across major Solana discovery and trading terminals.

  • Korea CIS2026 - President of Metaplex Foundation USA, Mackenzie Hom, spoke at the CIS Institutional Forum and Retail Festival in Korea. The Metaplex Korea Community Telegram channel surpassed 600 members within days.

  • $MPLX Buyback - The Metaplex DAO bought back 4.9M $MPLX (0.5% of total supply / 0.9% of outstanding supply).

  • Protocol Revenue - $167k in protocol revenue

Protocol Activity

In April, Metaplex generated $167k in protocol revenue including $116k from Token Metadata (70%), $35K from Core (21%), and $16K from Genesis and Other (9%).

In April, 138K Token Metadata assets were created, including 106K fungible tokens (76%).

New Core mints reached 278K.

In April, approximately 114K unique wallets signed transactions with Metaplex.

Metaplex Platform

Agent Tokens

On April 13th, Metaplex launched Agent Tokens, bringing Agentic Capital Markets to Solana. Any agent registered in the Metaplex 014 Agent Registry can now launch an official Agent Token to fund itself, with creator revenue accruing back to the agent on every trade. Tokens graduate to Raydium for deep liquidity and are immediately tradable across the major Solana terminals.

The launch shipped with six integration partners on day one, moltID, NoahAI, Xona, Idolly, ClawVaults and NeuroApp, turning the Metaplex Agent Kit from an identity layer into a complete capital-formation stack for agents. Agents that have a wallet, identity, and indexed presence can now finance their own compute, inference, and operating costs by issuing tokens that are tradable globally from the moment they're created.

To kick off the launch, the Metaplex DAO put up $50K in $MPLX rewards powered by Torque — $25K in creator rewards for agents that launch tokens, and $25K in user rewards for humans (or other agents) trading them. By month-end, Agent Tokens were launchable directly from the Metaplex Web App without parsing through docs.

Bonding Curve Launches

Bonding curve launches went live in the Metaplex App on April 17th, joining Launch Pools as a permissionless launch mechanic. Different launches require different mechanics. Bonding curves give creators an instantly tradable, price-discoverable launch path the moment a token is created, and inherit the same trading-terminal integrations Agent Tokens received. Combined with Launch Pools, the App now covers the most common token-issuance flows in a single permissionless venue for both humans and agents.

Metaplex DAO

Metaplex Protocol Revenue & $MPLX Buybacks

April’s buybacks reached 4.9M $MPLX as $141k of March's protocol revenue went towards buybacks for the DAO (0.5% of the total supply / 0.9% of outstanding supply). Each month, 50% of prior month’s protocol revenue is allocated to $MPLX buybacks for the DAO.

April protocol fees reached $167k USD (1,984 SOL), 50% of these fees will be used to buy back $MPLX for the DAO throughout May.

As of May 19th, the Metaplex DAO holds 293M $MPLX (29.3% of total supply) and has deployed an additional 38mm tokens (3.8% of total supply) as protocol owned liquidity (POL).

Metaplex Rewards Campaign

In early April, 117k $MPLX went out to raffle winners from the latest Torque Season 1 epoch. Mid-month, rewards were shifted towards agent tokens with a $50k $MPLX campaign to incentivize the creation, holding and trading of Agent Tokens, with rewards split evenly between creators and users on a live leaderboard.

Metaplex Foundation

As of May 19th, Metaplex Foundation holds 169M $MPLX (16.9% of total supply) in treasury wallets, with an additional 16mm tokens (1.6% of total supply) deployed in passive Kamino LP positions.

Partnership and Community Highlights

Candy Digital Migrating to Metaplex Core

In April, Candy Digital, the licensed digital collectibles platform with IP from MLB, DC Comics, Netflix, NASCAR, WWE, and others announced its migration of collectibles to Solana, building on Metaplex Core for the technical foundation.

The decisive technical hook was Core's embedded royalty enforcement: rather than relying on marketplace policies or off-chain agreements (which is how royalties have historically been enforced for licensed-IP collections), Metaplex Core enforces royalties directly in the asset itself. For a catalog representing licensors like MLB, DC Comics and Netflix, that protection is a hard requirement, not a nice-to-have.

Migration begins in June 2026 in batches over multiple days. Following migration, fans will hold their collectibles in self-custody Solana wallets and trade through major Solana marketplaces including Magic Eden. The migration represents one of the largest single licensed-IP catalogs to come to Solana on top of Metaplex Core.

Korea / CIS 2026

Metaplex returned to Korea in April as a Silver Sponsor of CIS 2026, the Crypto Investment Show hosted by Xangle and sponsored by Hanwha Investment Securities. President of Metaplex Foundation USA, Mackenzie Hom, spoke at the Solana Showcase during the Institutional Forum and the Retail Festival, presenting Metaplex's Solana-based token infrastructure and onchain economy expansion strategy with particular focus on how Metaplex makes AI agents identifiable onchain and connects them to token economies.

Metaplex operated a booth at the S-Factory Retail Festival, and the Korean community responded with over 600 users joined the Metaplex Korea Community Telegram channel within days. With over 30% of Koreans holding crypto, Korea remains a high-conviction strategic market for Metaplex following March's inaugural Metaplex Korea Summit. The CIS 2026 appearance was covered in Korea's 전자신문 (Electronic Times), as well as 10 other Korean publications.

Trendsdotfun Hackathon

The Metaplex track at the trendsdotfun hackathon, crowned its winners on April 10th:

  • 1st place: Orbit by Xona — onchain agent infrastructure built on the 014 Registry: identity, agent-owned wallets, delegated execution, and agent-to-agent rails.

  • 2nd place: Maria + Arsenal by SumPlusReal — Maria, a Solana AI agent registered in 014 with her own wallet and x402 endpoint; Arsenal, an MCP-native skill marketplace she calls to act onchain.

  • 3rd place: The Construct by OpenCrawl — autonomous AI Crawlers minted as Core NFTs with 014 identity, with stats, Elo, and upgrades stored as living metadata updated after every match via UpdateDelegate.

Colosseum Frontier Hackathon

Metaplex backed builders heading into the Colosseum Frontier Hackathon. Metaplex Engineering Lead blockiosaurus ran the Metaplex workshop walking builders through registering an agent and launching an Agent Token in minutes through the Metaplex Agent Kit. The Frontier campaign carried into early May.

Ecosystem

April saw continued growth across applications, creator platforms, and developer communities building with Metaplex. From AI-driven asset creation to large-scale commerce platforms launching on Solana, momentum continued across the broader ecosystem.

  • WURK - Agent-to-human microjobs marketplace. WURK lets agents hire humans for the work they can't finish alone, feedback, polls, social engagement, content tagging, taste — paid in USDC via x402 on Solana, with MCP and the OpenClaw skill supported out of the box. WURK closes the human-in-the-loop gap for any 014 Registry agent that needs taste, opinion, or attention from a real person, with response times of 3–60 minutes and pricing from $0.025 per response. Pairing WURK with Agent Tokens means an agent can fund itself onchain and then spend that capital reaching humans for the things it can't do alone.

  • Xona - Onchain agent infrastructure platform. Xona's integrated official Agent Tokens directly into Orbit. Builders can use Orbit to spin up an onchain agent with a wallet, identity, and autonomous-execution rights, then have it launch an Agent Token to fund itself all without leaving the platform. Orbit is a clean example of how the 014 Registry, Agent Kit, and Agent Tokens compose into a single end-to-end builder experience.

  • Hyre - Hyre joined the wave of agent platforms shipping on top of Metaplex during the Frontier Hackathon push, leveraging the Metaplex 014 Registry, Agent Kit, and Agent Tokens.

  • Oobe - Went live with official Agent Tokens powered by Metaplex, extending Agent Token issuance to creators who don't write code.

  • Eitherway - Shipped onchain in April, joining the growing roster of agent projects using the Metaplex 014 Registry and Metaplex Agent Tokens to give agents identity, wallets, and the ability to fund themselves.
