The Metaplex protocol is community governed by the $MPLX token. Home to thousands of developers, Metaplex is a distributed global community of builders, creators and entrepreneurs building on top of shared decentralized infrastructure, coordinated through the Metaplex DAO.

Collections & Incentives
The Metaplex protocol takes a small fee on the creation of tokens and NFTs on Solana, over 255,000 SOL to date. 50% of the protocol revenue is used to buy $MPLX which is then given to the Metaplex DAO for grants and incentive programs to accelerate new technology adoption.

Alongside the airdrop of $MPLX to creators, collectors, and developers in 2022, the Metaplex Foundation published the Metaplex Whitepaper. It includes an overview of the ecosystem, developer platform, $MPLX token, and more.
